Thirty six chairs

Attention: serious insider info follows!

We had been talking about visiting this place for ages before making the trip out to Lliça d’Amunt, a small town near Granollers. We finally got there this summer after a day walking in the country … or were we lounging by the pool, I can’t remember.

The Trenta-sis Cadires (“Thirty six chairs”) is a tiny restaurant which is semi-famous in Granollers for 3 reasons:

  • It is called the “Thirty six chairs”,
  • It only has 36 chairs,
  • There’s no menu.

What? No menu?

Well infact, there is a list of regular dishes posted on a blackboard, but every diner is treated to the waiter reeling off a long list of specials and elaborating on the flavours and ingredients. Don’t worry! If you’re catalan is not polished, they will do it in spanish also.

I really loved the food. Despite its size and location the restaurant has been sucessful for a number of years, based on talanted chef’in and good wines. My fish was very fresh and delicious.

If you’re ever headed out of town in that direction, or have a car and want to escape the noise of Barcelona I really recommend this venue.
